The new season kicked off at Ogbourne Downs on Easter Day. It was great to see some old faces that hadn’t played for a while and some new faces. We were blessed with a sunny day all be it chilly and a bit windy but then it always is at Ogbourne.
One the day we had thirteen players; a mixture of handicaps and ability but all with the same enthusiasm to have some fun. The golf was played at a decent pace, everyone finishing in well under four hours – Pete and Vic out first got round in under three hours giving them a whole extra hour of drinking time!
And so to the golf, there were some good performances from Matt Reynolds who we hadn’t seen for a while and new boy Clive Snashall but neither of them could live with the 41pts amassed by ‘Queen’ Anne Cooke. Nearest the pin on the 17th was picked up by David Cooke and the longest drive saw Kim Niblock in the lead right up until the last group when yours truly bashed one a bit further.
Then back to the Crown for more drinks and an excellent Carvery – followed by yet more drinks. Events then became a little hazy but a thoroughly good time was had by all.
Looking forward to seeing some of those that couldn’t make this time it at the Spring Cup on 12 May at West Berks.
