Dabchick Competition 1 2020 – The Wiltshire, Sunday 23rd August

By Keith DArcy Ryan
Simon Barrett, the winner at The Wiltshire 2020

Winners are grinners they say and I believe nearly a week on Simon Barrett is still ‘buzzing’ after his win last Sunday in our 1st Dabchick event of 2020. Huge congratulations Simon and a pleasure to witness the round, 41 points – I’m sure Sue will enjoy seeing the Shield around the house!

But Simon wasn’t the only player who enjoyed a decent round, congratulations also to 2nd place and the ever competitive Chris Faulkner, 40 points and also Pete Keen, 36 points who’s been enjoying a recent run of really good form.

The scores can be found using the link below for all players

Along with winners we also have ‘other’ prizes, firstly congratulations to Steve winning NP on the Par 3 9th. Then we offer our smiles to Donald Barnes who took home the buried club, much to both the relief and delight of Pete Keen who’s seen it far to often in recent years! Donald we know you’ll be back and it’s always great to see you still participating at 80 playing off 23.

Competition 2 & 3.

We look forward to welcoming memebers and guests to our 2nd competition of 2020 which is on Sunday 13th Sept with the 1st tee time at Shrivenham 2pm and the green fee for the day is £22

Shrivenham Park Golf Club offers a good standard of golf course, which although not the toughest, still throws up new challenges from hole to hole. The course is set in an open expanse of mature parkland, forcing you to negotiate woodland and the occasional stream on your way round. Overall this is a great course for golfers of all levels. Most memorable is the course’s own version of ‘Amen Corner’ – holes 5, 6 and 7 – which is always a talking point amongst visitors and members alike.

I can also confirm we have managed to secure a date and tee times for our 3rd event which will be held at The Manor House, Castle Combe on Sunday 4th Oct with 1st tee time being just after 1pm. Ever a favourite for the past few years the green fee with a shared buggy will be £50.

If people can let me know with regards both competitions that would be great, thank you. I’m also wanting to add a 4th event and would like some feedback please, would people like a week day event? An idea of green fee your happy to pay also please.

Please note this year isn’t the easist to book at times with clubs as the Covid situation has boosted many clubs memberships etc, great news in many respects for the sport we all enjoy, but I’ll attempt to deliver what members want.

I look forward to seeing you all again soon!
