Autumn Masters 2013

At triumph of optimism over certainty? The weather forecast was pretty grim – a tempest of biblical proportions was headed our way. We were going to get drenched and blown away in equal measures yet in spite of the predictions, 18 intrepid Dabchick Golfers arrived at the appointed hour.

Pre-match entertainment was once again provided by Barty who contrived to arrive ‘sans golf shoes’ but managed to persuade an amused and bemused pro shop into lending him a pair.

The wind – well that most certainly arrived – a good ‘four-club’ wind and with the first tee shot directly into the teeth of it things were looking decidedly worrisome. But as the round progressed, yes we had some drizzle but thankfully the heralded deluge didn’t materialise – waterproofs were cautiously removed and the weather incredibly held.

And there was some fine golf played with seven out of 18 scores in the 30s most notably Kim Niblock and Anne Cooke who each scored 35 points to come second and third respectively. Modesty prevents, but yours truly managed to just edge the ladies out with 36 points to give back-to-back victories. As I had already qualified, the result pairs up Kim and Anne in the Club Championship.
