A magnificent sunny day in early August saw Sanford Springs host the Dabchick ‘Big Day Out’. The day got off to a fantastic start; it wasn’t the weather, the top-notch full English breakfast, the warm welcome from all the people at Sandford Springs, no it was Barty. Already sporting a half closed right eye, Barty, in the best tradition of Tom & Jerry cartoons, didn’t just walk into but Splatted into a closed glass door, comedy!
We started with a team competition over the nine holes of The Lakes. Some top scoring saw the spoils shared between the teams of Graham Cook, Donald Barnes and Clive Penny and of Dave Newham, Pete Keen and Barney.
After a hearty lunch, we headed out to play The Park and The Woods. There were some solid performances with seven of the 20 players scoring 30 points or over. Barty backed up his previous win with a second place spot. The ever reliable Graham Cooke was second, with yours truly just sneaking a win – Doc and Graham qualify for the Club Championship.
The longest drive was won by Clive Penny and Barty cleaned up the nearest the pin. It was nice to see some new players joining the society – a big welcome to Brian Warneford and to Nick Bowley.
Looking forward to seeing you all at the Autumn Masters on Sunday 15 September at Wrag Barn.
